exploring movement, puppetry, theater, and the irresistible power of being ridiculous

Strand Theatre’s Family Series continues with ‘The Gottabees’ interactive theatre

Fri, 03/26/2021 - 1:30pm

The Boston-based ensemble The Gottabees will present three interactive Zoom experiences for kids and families as part of the virtual Strand Family Series.

“How to Charm A Sea Monster” will be available on April 9 and 10, “What We Found in the Forest” will be available on April 16 and 17, and “Journey into Space” on April 23 and 24. All shows are at 11 a.m.

The shows, part of The Gottabees’ “ScreenPLAY!” series, are non-stop interactive fun where the whole family can become part of the story. The experience allows participants to channel their household's creativity into an inspiring work of participatory art, as The Gottabees explore movement, puppetry, theater, and the irresistible power of being ridiculous.

Tickets to stream these shows are “Pay-What-You-Can;” ticket prices are set at $20, $10, $5, or $0, so that cost is not a barrier to attend. A limit of 50 tickets will be sold for each show.

The programs are appropriate for ages 3 and up.

Performance time is 30-35 minutes, plus a Q&A session with the audience.

The Gottabees, led by Bonnie Duncan, are dedicated to creating inspirational, engaging, and empowering theater for family audiences. They apply their interdisciplinary training in music, dance, acrobatics, theater, and design to share original non-verbal stories set to live music that weave together human and puppet characters in surprising ways. The Gottabees’ stories reflect children's everyday aspirations, concerns, and emotional experiences.

A live GREEN ROOM: Artist Chat interview with Bonnie Duncan will take place on Tuesday, April 6, at 6 p.m., streamed from the Strand’s YouTube and Facebook pages; it will then be available on the Strand’s website.

The audience will hear from Duncan about The Gottabees’ creative process in forming this innovative program, as well as get a sneak peek into what a “ScreenPLAY!” interactive performance is really like. Viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions via the comment section on Facebook or YouTube.

Upcoming shows in the Strand Virtual Family Series:

A Castle Of Our Skins concert presents music, history, and more in this family-friendly show featuring string quartets playing African American Spirituals. May 1 - 16.
