ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre will again open its doors for film screenings starting on Friday, June 11. The theater’s new season of films will open with the new release In the Heights, a musical set in New York City’s Washington Heights that features music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“After careful deliberation, and in consultation with the local and regional data, we are beyond thrilled to announce an in-person return to the Strand Theatre!” said Executive Director Jessie Davis, in a news release. “On Friday, June 11, we will once again open the doors, pop the popcorn, and illuminate the Strand screen in a spirit of gratitude and celebration. We are more than ready to come together again to enjoy the beauty of the shared experience!”

The theater has established in-house protocols for the health and safety of visitors and staff, including enhanced cleaning practices and an upgraded ventilation system. Each show’s attendance will be capped at 70 (20% of auditorium capacity), and movie-goers will be asked to wear masks while entering and moving about the theater. Fully-vaccinated people will be able to remove their masks once seated.

The Strand has presented virtual screenings of films, concerts, and educational events for the past 14 months, and will continue to offer online entertainment in addition to the theater shows. An Outdoor Summer Concert Series will be presented in the Key Bank Parking lot next to the Strand; live concerts are expected to resume in the theater this fall.
