A thriller-like true story, an ex-con who becomes a priest, and a supernatural comedy

The Strand presents Virtual Cinema screenings

    ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre has launched a new platform that will allow film-lovers to see new release films that would have screened at the Strand, at home instead. In partnership with various film distributors, the STRAND AT HOME: Virtual Cinema films will be available, by purchasing a “virtual ticket,” before they are available on public streaming platforms.

    Proceeds from the ticket purchases will be shared between the Strand and the film distribution company, and will provide much-needed support while the theater’s doors are temporarily closed to regular shows. Virtual ticket prices range from $10-12.

    "The Strand, like every business and organization, has had to quickly adapt to the rapidly developing best practices around maintaining public health,” said Executive Director Jessie Davis, in a news release. “The Strand's mission to bring people together to engage in the magic of shared experiences stands in direct opposition to the advice for us to keep our distance. What are we to do? Fortunately, thanks to the diligent and creative work of the Strand staff and our partners, we've found ways to continue to bring you Strand programming at home – the latest addition being this new opportunity to see the films you would have seen here with us at the theater. The primary difference is you'll have to pop your own popcorn!"

    Films scheduled at the time of this release are:

    Balloon, a thriller-like true story by German director Michael Bully Herbig, available March 31 - April 6;

    Corpus Christi, a drama about an ex-con who becomes a priest, by Polish director Jan Komasa, showing April 7 - 13;

    and the supernatural comedy Extra Ordinary from Irish directors Mike Ahern, Enda Loughman, available April 14 - 20.
