THOMASTON — Midcoast Music Academy (MCMA) invites music lovers of all ages to its fundraiser concert on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7 - 10 p.m., at Watts Hall, in Thomaston.
"The evening is designed to feel less like a traditional concert and more like a gathering of friends, with great bands, good food, drinks, dancing, and plenty of opportunities to connect with the community," said MCMA, in a news release.
Proceeds from the concert and raffle will help MCMA provide high-quality, accessible music education to students who are passionate about learning and making music.
The Speed of Sound is a Maine-based indie band that "blends sharp musicianship, melodic sensibilities, and a love for timeless songwriting," according to an MCMA news release. The band is fronted by local music veteran Spencer Albee (Rustic Overtones, As Fast As) on lead vocals, vintage keyboards, and rhythm guitar, alongside MCMA instructor Zachary Bence on lead guitar and background vocals, Jake Greenlaw on drums and background vocals, and Caleb Sweet on bass and background vocals.
"The Speed of Sound has a hankering for Wonder, Hendrix, Little Feat, McCartney, The Meters, Zeppelin, Hancock, Bowie, Zevon, and Detroit-era Motown," said the news release.
The band is in the process of releasing their first album, which can be enjoyed on all streaming platforms. For more information, visit www.spenceralbee.com/speed-of-sound.
MKTrio is led by Appleton native Myles Kelley on keys, August Duclos on bass, and Owen Markowitz on drums. MCMA alumni Myles Kelley and Owen Markowitz grew up in Midcoast Maine, while August Duclos hails from New York City. The trio describes its music as “loud, quiet, medium, good, bad, ugly, locally grown and unflinching." To learn more about MKTrio and hear their 2025 album House On Fire, visit mktrio.bandcamp.com.
Food from Dot’s Market is included with admission, and Waterworks will offer a cash bar. A raffle featuring prize packages will support MCMA’s mission to ensure dedicated students have access to music education regardless of financial circumstances.
Raffle tickets will be available at the concert, with online sales opening one week before the show.
