South School in Rockland creates community through Mystery Bingo Night

According to Dr. Seuss: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” The place to go on Thursday, February 2, was South School’s Mystery Bingo Night and Scholastic Book Fair.
The South School events committee, in partnership with Friends of South School, were proud to sponsor the well-attended event that brought together families, staff members, and administration for a fun-filled evening.
Attendees first visited the Scholastic Book Fair and then hungry shoppers were directed to the gym for cheese pizza delivered by South End Grocery. After a description of how to play, the games began and many children had the opportunity to shout “Bingo!” by the end of the night.
Bags were filled with mystery prizes for three winners per game. The evening ended with a special Blackout game (where players have to cover their entire Bingo card) with winners selecting larger prizes including gift cards to Sherman’s Book Store.
Display tables included the Title 1 program offering free cookbooks and cooking utensils to support using math at home as well as representatives from FOSS sharing information about the current coffee fundraiser and upcoming meetings and events.
“The gym underwent a fantastic transformation with balloons and colorful tables and we filled the room with over 200 people,” said volunteer Bingo Caller and Speech Language Pathology Assistant Heather Anderson. “All of our volunteers, a team of staff, parents, middle school students, and high school students, made this night a great success.”
“The best part of any event like this is to see families enjoying time together doing something fun at school. Community is just one of South School’s four Core Values and it was alive and well at Bingo Night.” said Principal Justin Bennett.
It was such a wonderful time for all that it just may become an annual event!
