South of the Border three-peats as Waldoboro co-ed softball champions




WALDOBORO — The Waldoboro Co-ed Softball League concluded its season this past weekend when the championship contests were held.
This season, South of the Border battled the Benchwarmers for the league crown.
After dropping the first championship game to the Benchwarmers 13-7, South of the Border was able to rack up a 14-6 victory in the “if-needed” contest to secure their third consecutive crown and fifth overall.
The South of the Border roster includes Gordon Simmons, Keith Simmons, Andrew Simmons, Carlos Arteaga, Ashley Geel, Erin Chase, Jarrod Simmons, Sarah Grant, Jeremy Byrd, Dylan Maloney, Dwayne Neubig, Mike Jameson, Eric Hunt, Steven York, Andrea Williamson, Mike Young and Taylor Williamson.
The Benchwarmers roster includes Lee Smith, Heath Smith, Becca Smith, Tim Jackson, Jordan Carter, Lenny Wedge, Jason Yates, Sara Cullity, Chris Burns, Betsy Wedge, Jenn Daniels, Robin Botley, Kim Young, Jay Young and Jacob York.

In the first championship contest, the Benchwarmers scored one run in each the third and sixth innings, in addition to 11 runs in the fifth. South of the Border scored two runs in the first, one each in the second and sixth and three in the fifth.
In the if-needed contest, South of the Border scored one run in the first, sixth and seventh innings, as well as three in the second, six in the third and five in the fifth. The Benchwarmers scored three runs in each the second and third innings.
