WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins has tested positive for COVID-19, according to an early Thursday evening statement from her office.

The Senator is currently experiencing mild symptoms and will work remotely and in isolation in accordance with CDC guidelines, her office noted in a news release.

The Republican senator from Maine recently attended an event at the annual Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, D.C., according to Politico.

Several event attendees have since tested positive, according to Politico, including U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Vice President Kamala Harris’ communications director Jamal Simmons, Rep. Adam Schiff (Calif.) and Rep. Joaquin Castro (Texas).

Politico is reporting this evening, April 7, that Sen. Collins learned of her positive test at 4 p.m., a few hours after Sen. Collins cast her vote in favor of Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Joe Biden’s nominee for a soon-to-be available seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.
