BELFAST and SWANVILLE — After less than one year, Elizabeth Drury has resigned from her post as principal of both East Belfast Elementary School and Kermit Nickerson Elementary School.

During the March 11 RSU 71 school board meeting, it was announced Drury decided to step down as she felt the position was no longer right for her.

“She’s smart, she’s hardworking, she’s very caring and she really cares about student achievement, and these are all qualities she brought this year,” RSU 71 Superintendent Mary Alice McLean said of Drury during the meeting.

Prior to assuming her principal duties in July 2018, Drury worked as a middle school math, science and social studies teacher and spent time at Troy Howard Middle School.

The position is being advertised and a search is underway. The selected candidate will also serve as principal at both elementary schools.

The selected candidate will begin July 1.
