OWLS HEAD — Sandra K. Arvidson, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Monday, November 14, 2022, at her home in Owls Head. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts on September 30, 1937, she was the first born of three daughters to Carl and Karin Olson.

The family moved to Wheaton, Illinois her sophomore year of high school. She made a quick impression as the girl with “pep” and was adored by her classmates for her sweet demeanor and dry humor. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1955. After graduation she entered the field of dentistry as a Dental Hygienist Assistant and loved it.

The family then moved back to Massachusetts, this time to Westwood. Sandra met her soul mate when introduced to Paul Arvidson and they married on April 30, 1960, in Forest Hills, Massachusetts. She and Paul lived in Quincy and Duxbury, Massachusetts in the early years of their marriage. Their greatest accomplishment was raising 4 children, 3 of which were adopted. Upon a career transition for Paul, they relocated to Rockland to raise their children.

With Sandra’s inspiration they purchased Albert E. MacPhail appliances and then in 1985 bought Arvidson’s Home Furnishings (incorporating both the appliances and furniture) which they operated together from 1985 through 1998. Sandra had an amazing talent in the perfection of detail, from her self-presentation, dinner table décor, or home decorating. She had a true gift in creating an atmosphere that celebrated character and personality. She thoroughly enjoyed running the furniture side of the store with Paul.

They were a big part of the local communities and enjoyed skiing, swimming, dancing and dining with many special friends and family.

In 1999 she moved to Duxbury, Massachusetts, where she had many loving friendships. Together with her friends she enjoyed walks on the local beach, kayaking and book clubs. In 2015 she moved back to the Midcoast area to Owls Head to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the homes she shared in Owls Head and Hilton Head, South Carolina with her partner Robert Travis. Sandra and Bob loved sharing their time with their families and enjoyed many beautiful family events and gatherings.

Sandra’s love of family was her legacy. She took great pride in her children and, in her kind gentle way, encouraged and supported their interests in every aspect of their lives. She cherished her grandchildren. Her kind spirit and gentle smile lives on in all who knew her.

Predeceased by her parents and her husband, Paul; Sandra is survived by her partner, Bob of Owls Head and Hilton Head, South Carolina; her children, Todd (Michelle) of Augusta, Korin of Owls Head, Brent (Catie Butt) of Windham, Maine, and Traya (Bob Huff) of Bar Harbor, Maine; her grandchildren, Michael Arvidson of Camden, and Megan Huff of Bar Harbor.

She is also survived by her sisters, Carlene Johnson (Kenneth) of San Diego, California, and Beverlee (Tom) of Yarmouth, Maine; as well as nieces and nephews and a loving extended family.

Family and friends are invited to visit Monday, November 28, 2022, from 5 - 7 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.

A celebration of life and service will be on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 11 a.m., at the Pilgrim Church of Duxbury, Massachusetts, with interment at Mayflower Cemetery to follow.
