FREEDOM — Rodney A. Sienkiewicz, of Freedom, Maine, passed peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at the age of 86.

Rod was born on October 13, 1933, in Stamford, Connecticut to Henry and Bernice (Karbowski) Sienkiewicz. He married Betty L Krueger, in Stamford, Connecticut on August 25, 1956. Together they raised three daughters and a son.

Rod was a salesman for most of his life. He served proudly in the US Navy and often said, “I took an oath to protect my country and I stand by that today.” Rod also served his community as a Reserve Deputy for the Sheriffs Department and a Deputy Game Warden in both Waldo and Somerset Counties.

Rod was a lifetime outdoors man and enjoyed his time spent hunting and fishing the Maine woods and waters. He taught most of his family to fly fish and made most of them custom fly rods and taught them to tie flies. He was proud of his fruit orchard and the yearly Apple squeeze was something we all looked forward to. Rod dearly loved his family and his friends. The door was always open, a cup of coffee and a warm greeting was given to everyone.

Rod was predeceased by his wife, Betty, of 54 years; granddaughter, Jodi Kinney; grandson, Casey Durkee; brothers, Henry and Edwin Sienkiewicz; and his parents, Henry and Bernice Sienkiewicz.

He is survived by his children, Patricia and James Ross of Cornville; Cynthia Kinney of Freedom with whom he lived, Linda Therrien and her fiancée, Mike Lyford of Pittston, and Scott and Linda Sienkiewicz of Islesboro; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home Belfast, ME.
