music, drama, and ‘leadership skills beyond measure’

CAMDEN — The Visual and Performing Arts Department at Camden Hills Regional High School is pleased to announce Robyn Walker-Spencer as the Student of the Month for May, according to CHRHS, in a news release.

Walker-Spencer was recently named the CHRHS 2020 Valedictorian, and cites biology and marine science as a present passion and future focus. Yet, during her high school tenure, Robyn Walker-Spencer has immersed herself in music and drama, developing not only another passion, but proving leadership skills beyond measure.

As a member of the CHRHS Women’s Choir, Chorale, and Chamber Singers, Walker-Spencer is a valuable ensemble member whose core values exemplify team spirit, discipline and camaraderie. She leads by example, always challenging herself by auditioning for a myriad of festivals and competitions, sometimes even switching voice parts to further the challenge.

During her high school career, Walker-Spencer was regularly accepted in the MMEA District III Honor Choirs, was accepted to three years of the MMEA All State Festival, and participated in the extra-curricular a cappella ensemble: CHRHS Fortissima. This year, she has been a co-leader of Fortissima: running rehearsals, arranging music and scheduling performances.

In addition to music, Robyn Walker-Spencer has been featured in both ensemble and lead roles in both school and community theatrical productions. At CHRHS, favorite roles include Miss Andrews in Mary Poppins, Poppy in Noises Off and the upcoming (zoom performance) of Arsenic and Old Lace (Martha). Walker-Spencer was recognized for her theatrical talents by being named to the All Festival Cast, two years in a row, during the Maine Regional One Act Festival. Not only dedicated to roles on stage, Robyn Walker-Spencer, could always be depended upon to help behind-the-scenes, especially with costume design and sewing.

Community members can still catch a couple of Walker-Spencer’s sensitive and heartfelt performances by logging on to the CHRHS Virtual Fine Arts Night (to be posted in late May/early June) where she can be found playing guitar and singing (a pursuit that has filled many hours during this time of quarantine) and a Zoom performance by the CHRHS cast of Arsenic and Old Lace.

The Visual and Performing Arts Department wishes Robyn Walker-Spencer success in her chosen career. And as she leaves, she has some sage advice for younger students: “I met the most wonderful people in the theater and music departments just by putting myself out there and trying these things that I love so much. Never be afraid to just go for it, and try not to care too much about what other people think!”

Congratulations to Robyn Walker-Spencer!
