ROCKLAND — Robert F. Mackie, 84 passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020, peacefully at the Sussman House in Rockport, after a period of declining health.

Born in Rockland, June 23, 1935, he was the son of Lawrence Thomas and Doris Mabel Eaton Mackie. Bob attended Rockland schools and left early to go into the service during the Korean War.

Upon returning from the Service Bob met Beulah Ott, “the love of his life.” They married on October 1, 1958. They made a great pair, raising their son and enjoying life together.

Bob worked for several fish plants in Rockland, and out of New Bedford on scallop boats. He also went lobstering in his own boat.

Bob loved to go hunting, on many occasions going out to the bog hunting with his son, brother and relatives.

Just before his passing Bob saw a video of his great-great granddaughter walking for her first time. This bought a smile to Bob’s face.

More recently, Bob had been a resident at the Methodist Home in Rockland, where he enjoyed the friendship of many of the other residents.

Predeceased by his parents and wife Beulah, Bob is survived by his son, Robert T. Mackie and his wife Carol; his brother Thomas Mackie and his wife Bonnie, all of South Thomaston; a sister, Sylvia Mason of Topsham;
two granddaughters, Jennifer Curtis and Holly Roberts; five great grandchildren Julia, Jaelynn, David, Jaxon and Maxwell; a great-great granddaughter, Rosalee; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to be held at Rockville Cemetery in Rockport, will be announced at a later date.
