Priscilla May Barnes, obituary

THOMASTON — Priscilla May Barnes of Thomaston, Maine, died peacefully Tuesday, November 21, 2018 at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport. 

Born in Warren, Maine, on November 20, 1937, she was the only child of Waldo and Gladys Ring.

She attended Thomaston schools, graduating from Thomaston High School in 1956 as valedictorian.

She married Paul Barnes in 1957, and they raised their family in Warren, Belfast, and Thomaston.

They were married for 61 years.

In 1979 she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Maine at Augusta and became a teacher, teaching first and second grade in Warren schools.

She was a member of many organizations, the school board for MSAD 50, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, PEO, and the Ladies Guild at Rockland Congregational Church.

She had an adventurous side. She loved to camp with her family and friends, camping all over the northeastern U.S, hiking mountains, and riding bicycles. She fearlessly traversed the woods near her home on the back of a dirt bike with her son Brian, and she drove an ATV in rough northern Maine terrain with her husband Paul. She was an adventurous cross-country skier who love to hit the trails her friends and her kids.

Priscilla had a passion for genealogy, proudly tracing her family tree to the Mayflower expedition and beyond, traveling to the British Isles to explore her ancestry. She was also a talented seamstress and enjoyed gardening.

She loved to travel over the years taking numerous trips on cruise ships from Alaska to the Caribbean. Prince Edward Island was one of her favorite yearly trips with her husband Paul.

She is survived by her husband Paul Barnes of Thomaston; her daughter Paula Barnes Mark and her husband, Kevin, from Midvale, Utah; her son Perry Barnes and his wife, Lauren from Thomaston; her daughter Karen Barnes Grierson and her husband, George, from Thomaston; her son Brian Barnes and his wife, Rita, from Thomaston; her grandchildren Gregory Tripp and his wife, Tiffany; Lauren Tripp Vega and her husband, Jesus; Allison Tripp Johnson and her husband, Tyler; Emily Mark; David Mark and his wife, Rachel; Stephanie Neal and her husband, George; Brad Grierson and his wife Joanna; Ryan Grierson and his wife, Meagan; Alex Grierson and his wife, Schaeffer; Christopher Barnes; Daniel Barnes; and 23 great-grandchildren.
