Preston Levi Seekins Jr., obituary
SEARSPORT — Preston Levi Seekins Jr., of Searsport, passed away peacefully after a brave battle with cancer on January 11, 2026.
Preston graduated from Searsport District High School in 1969 and from Maine Maritime Academy in 1973. He dedicated 35 years to teaching Building Construction at Waldo County Technical Center, shaping the lives and skills of countless students. In addition to teaching, he was a skilled carpenter who worked as a subcontractor, often building homes alongside his brother Dennis.
Preston was predeceased by his parents, Preston L. Seekins Sr. and Juanita E. (Moulton) Seekins; his brother Peter C. Seekins; and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vicki M. (Staples) Seekins; his daughter, Sarah J. (Seekins) Dyer; his son, Neil P. Seekins; and his daughter-in-law, Neelima (Turaga) Seekins. He is also survived by his siblings Dennis Seekins and his wife Sharon Seekins, Diane (Seekins) Gilmore and her husband Hillard Gilmore, all of Searsport, and Angela (Seekins) Nevells and her partner Alan Crocket of Sedgwick, Maine.
Preston loved the ocean and working on boats. He especially cherished kayaking with his son, Neil, and his friend Willie Leach. He enjoyed sailing with his close friend Dennis Ward and Dennis’s wife, Mieko, when they visited from Okinawa. Many happy days were also spent boating around Penobscot Bay with his friend Wayne Hamilton and Wayne’s wife, Lorraine.
Preston will live on through the knowledge, kindness, and love he shared with his students, family, and friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Searsport Ambulance and MaineHealth Waldo Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion during his final days.
