Presidential election signs stolen from Camden yards

CAMDEN — A surge in stolen Kamala Harris presidential signs in Camden neighborhoods throughout town have residents reporting the thefts to the Police Department.
"We have received a number of complaints beginning earlier this week," said Camden Police Chief Randy Gagne, Oct. 2.
On Tuesday night, Harden Ave. was hit with the removal of Kamala Harris signs, leaving empty metal frames still pegged into the grass. All other political signs were left intact.
Other streets hit by thievery included Mechanic, Cross, Trim, Central, as well as Barnestown Road.
There are no suspects at this time, Gagne said, but the Harris sign thefts have occured, "all over town," he said.
No matter the design, it is just the Harris signs being stolen. And theft is the crime.
"You cannot steal political signs," said Gagne.
People have the right to express their views without concern that their signs will be removed, he said.
"If it is not yours, don’t touch it," he said.
Stealing political signs is not a new trend.
"It is something we seem to experience every election cycle, especially presidential cycles," said Gagne.
He encourages property owners with security cameras, including those built into doorbells, to share any suspect recordings with police.
Call 594-5656. Do not call 911, unless there is an active emergency.
"We’d be happy to review any coverage," said Gagne.
