Philip E. Wolley, obituary

SEARSPORT— Philip Ewell Wolley, Sr., 89, of Searsport, died on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Harbor Hill in Belfast. 

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 6, 1930, he was the son of Sumner Robinson and Gladys (Ewell) Wolley, and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict.  Phil graduated from Melrose High School in 1948 and attended Cambridge School of Broadcasting. 

On October 8, 1955 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, Phil married Patricia Shepard from Bangor. In 1958 they moved from Bangor to Searsport.

His employment included the position of industrial development director for the City of Bangor and also advertising director for Penobscot Poultry in Belfast. For 22 years, Phil worked for the Maine State Lottery as a sales representative for 22 years.   

As the father of three athletic sons, Phil was always on the go coaching Little League or following sporting events in Searsport.  Since 1958, he had been a member of the Searsport Lion’s Club, and in 1968, served as President.  

In the 1960s when shows were held at Mosman Park, Phil enjoyed being the master of ceremonies. In later years, he was MC for the annual 4th of July productions held at Union Hall. 

Phil will be remembered for his outgoing personality, sense of humor, and his constant smile.

One of his sons said, “My father was a handsome white-haired man who loved my mother, his kids, and sports, in that order!”

Predeceased by two sons, Scott Wolley and Philip E. Wolley, Jr.; he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia Wolley of Searsport; two sons, Peter Wolley of Bangor; Christopher Wolley and his wife, Margaret of Melrose, MA; and five grandchildren, Nicholas, Benjamin, Rachael, Scott, and Megan Wolley. 

A Celebration of Life will be announced in July 2020.  Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
