ROCKLAND — The Rockland Public Library is opening the main level of the library to the public on Monday, June 15. For this second stage of their phased reopening, the hours have been adjusted in the best interest of service and safety for public and staff; they will be Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.; and closed Sundays. During this time, the parking-lot-side (White Street) doors will be the only point of entry.

Based upon recommendations for building capacity, there will be a 15 patron limit in the Library. Because of this, the Library requests that one family member come into the building to pick items, if they are able to do so, and for all to keep their visit to 30 minutes or less. Every person counts toward the limit, regardless of age. A limited number of computers will be available during this phase.

For the safety of the staff and other patrons, anyone who comes into the building must wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available for visitors at the entrance of the Library. As many patrons are in high risk categories, everyone must work together to keep the Library safe for all. Visitors are also expected to follow social distancing guidelines in the Library and maintain a 6-foot distance from other people.

The Library asks that patrons attempt to limit what they handle to items they intend to check out. If they touch a book, audio book, DVD, or other item and don't check it out, they must place it on one of the labeled quarantine tables located throughout the Library.

Library staff (and or/cleaners) will clean and disinfect high touch areas at least three times a day. While library staff will do their best to make the Library clean and safe for everyone, a germ-free environment is not guaranteed. The staff urge visitors to take precautions such as using hand-sanitizer or hand-washing, and not touching their face inside the building.

All returns should continue to be placed in one of the exterior book drops. The Library cannot accept any donations at this time; however, Friends of Rockland Public Library President Rebecca Albright may be reached at 975-3946 if you have books to donate.

Library staff are looking forward to welcoming patrons back in the building; for those who prefer to continue with no-contact service, curbside pick-up will continue during this phase. Library programs will continue to be virtual at this time.
