Passenger injured following two-vehicle crash on Old County Road in Rockland
ROCKLAND – One person was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center, Wednesday evening, Oct. 12, following a two-vehicle crash in front of the Rockland Golf Course on Old County Road.
The S-Curve stretch of road remained closed to traffic from the time of the 911 call to dispatch, 5:20 p.m., until both vehicles were towed from the scene just prior to 6:15 p.m.
Rockland police have charged Spencer Reuillard with failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle after he became distracted. According to Police Sgt. Scott Redmun, Reuillard’s southbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck a Knox County Sheriff’s Office transport van head-on.
Reuillard and the transport officer were uninjured, and Rockland EMS transported the transport caravan’s sole inmate to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Airbags deployed in both vehicles.
Redmun estimates that local police see between half a dozen and a dozen vehicle crashes per year on that stretch of road.
“People need to be cognizant,” he said. “Internal distractions inside the car – external extractions outside the car as well – just...people need to pay attention.”
