Owls Head Transportation Museum launches Winter Education Lecture Series
Owls Head Transportation Museum is launching a Winter Education Lecture Series, a four-program lineup running from January through April that brings together Maine community voices, museum experts, and special guest speakers. Designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding, the series blends transportation history with hands-on learning and STEM exploration.
"Each lecture offers visitors the opportunity to engage with highlights from the museum’s renowned collection while connecting those artifacts to broader themes in education, innovation, and mechanical arts," said OHTM, in a news release. "Programs are also part of the museum’s Science & Industry Center STEM Saturdays, reinforcing OHTM’s commitment to lifelong learning for all ages."
The series begins on January 24 with Youth Racing, a dynamic program led by members of the Great Race X-Cup team and the creators of the Pinetree Jamboree. The lecture begins at 1 p.m., and runs approximately 45 minutes. Speakers will share stories from their racing travels while exploring how racing can serve as a powerful educational tool. As a special feature, every race car in the museum will have its hood open, giving visitors a rare opportunity to look under the hood and learn more about the mechanics behind the machines.
On February 14, Engine Skills: Mechanical Arts will be presented by past OHTM volunteer and local business owner Philip Reinhardt, offering insight into hands-on mechanical knowledge and craftsmanship.
The series continues on March 14 with Leading Women of OHTM, followed by the Scale Modeling Expo on April 11.
Additional program details and updates will be announced soon.
