OWLS HEAD — Chief Frank Ross of the Owls Head Fire Department is proud to announce that the Town of Owls Head has been re-evaluated by Insurance Services Organization (ISO) who is responsible for determining a municipalities ability to respond to a fire or other emergency in town for insurance companies.

ISO has recently changed their rating system. The town used to be rated as a 6/9. 6 represents the places where the town has hydrants available and the second number 9 represents areas where no hydrants are available but are within 3 miles of the fire station. Those rating numbers were changed to 6/Y6.

After the recent re-evaluation ISO re-rated the town as a 5/Y5. A huge change that should save home and business owners money on their fire insurance premiums beginning in January 2018.

Chief Ross credits the work the fire dept has done on training, the amount of water the towns apparatus carry to a first response and the automatic response received for structure fires from their mutual aid partners Rockland and South Thomaston fire departments, as well as the entire Knox County Mutual Aid Association, along with good department records.
