Henry’s on Hold

New Knox musical ‘Count Me In’ postponed

Watts Hall Community Players has submitted the following announcement:

Henry Knox is still going to sing in historic Watts Hall in Thomaston, but his debut will be somewhat delayed. After all, he has waited 270 years to sing on stage. What are a few more months? The new Knox musical, Count Me In, planned for late June and early July as the Watts Hall Community Players summer production, will be postponed until it is safe for the volunteer cast to practice and for crowds to gather.

This much anticipated musical, a wonderfully inspiring tribute to the lives of Henry and Lucy Knox, is more than a history lesson, and from the rousing opening title song, Count Me In, to the heartwarming closing, Make My Mark, the story should touch a relevant chord for theater goers of all ages.

Watts Hall Community Players still looks forward to sharing this new production with the community as its contribution to the Maine Bicentennial celebration. Producing a piece which has never been on stage can be a daunting task, and the group is thrilled to have Caleb Eugley join the production staff for Count Me In. Eugley is a familiar face on the Thomaston stage having most recently starred as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.

Eugley is currently a Junior at SUNY Potsdam as a theater major and is looking forward to bringing a fresh perspective to this brand new production. Two other familiar faces and talents have also agreed to help launch Count Me In. Sean Fleming, who wrote many of the arrangements for the musical, will be musical director, and Geoff Parker, noted media specialist, will share his expertise with some creative stage visuals.

It is hoped that auditions can be held in May, most likely virtually, and when the COVID-19 crisis has abated, rehearsals and production plans will proceed with caution when it is safe to do so. Certainly, it is impossible to make concrete plans at this stage of our isolation, but potential cast members are asked to watch for audition notices in early May and start thinking creatively about virtual rehearsals.
