PORT CLYDE — Nancy D. Hamilton, 86, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her family on Friday , August 17, 2018 at her home in Port Clyde, Maine. Nancy was born on June 1, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, to parents Thomas and Gladys (Burns) Dillon. Nancy was the oldest of two children.
Nancy’s family settled in Newton, Massachusetts, in Hunnewell Circle alongside the Burn’s daughters, husbands, and grandchildren. After graduating from Newton High School Nancy attended the Rhode Island School of Design receiving a B.F.A. in painting.
Nancy and Robert raised their their children in Providence, Rhode Island, and after spending many summers in Port Clyde, they were able to move there permanently in the early 1980s after Bob retired from his professor’s role from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Nancy always enjoyed being a part of the community of Port Clyde and the surrounding towns. Nancy was a founding member of the Humane Society of Knox County ( now the Pope Memorial Humane Society).
Nancy worked tirelessly writing the Animal bios and thank you notes to the many donors.
Along with her work at the animal shelter Nancy also delivered Meals on Wheels and took great comfort in visiting the elderly and became very close to many of the residents.
Along with her parents Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Robert Hamilton, in 2004.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, daughter Vicky Hamilton, of Port Clyde; her son, Scott Hamilton of Certaldo, Italy; and her sister, Judy Powers, of Florida.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Dillon Ruiz-Hamilton of Brookly, N.Y.; and Sho Hamilton and Hiro Hamilton, of Tokyo, Japan, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held with date and times to be announced. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Nancy’s name to the Pope Memorial Humane Society, P.O.Box 1294, Rockland, ME. 04841.
