ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre will screen My National Gallery: London as a high-definition Exhibition On Screen presentation on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Working with top international museums and galleries, Exhibition On Screen creates films which offer a cinematic immersion into the world’s best loved art, accompanied by insights from leading historians and arts critics.

In My National Gallery: London, beloved celebrities, devoted staff members and world class experts come together to paint a unique portrait of this iconic British institution for its 200th birthday.

According to many, the National Gallery of London is one of the world’s greatest art galleries. It is full of masterpieces, and is an endless resource of history and stories. But whose stories are told? Which art has the most impact and on whom? The power of great art lies in its ability to communicate with anyone, no matter their art historical knowledge, their background, or their beliefs.

This film gives voice to those whose lives have been touched by the Gallery – from security guard to director, everyday visitor to celebrities and members of the royal family. Each interviewee identifies the one artwork which means the most to them, with this diverse cross section of society making surprising choices of both well-known masterpieces and hidden gems. These stories are used as a lens through which to explore the 200-year history of the National Gallery and what the future may hold for this spectacular space.
