Mt. View student charged following alleged threats of violence via social media

    THORNDIKE — On Monday April 22, 2019 the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office was made aware by the administration of the Mt. View School that a possible threat of violence had been made against the school by a student, according to the sheriff’s office.

    School Resource Deputy Jordan Tozier, Detective Dale Brown and Deputy Mariza Gionfriddo collaborated with the staff of the school to immediately isolate the suspect student and conducted an investigation by interviewing a number of potential witnesses as well as the suspect, the release said.

    “From the initial investigation law enforcement personnel and school administration were able to determine that the student had in fact communicated threats of violence via social media,” the release said. “The student, a 15 year old male, was charged with Terrorizing, Class D.

    “The safety of the students, staff and all those who visit the Mt. View complex is the highest priority of the Sheriff’s Office and the school administrative team. This situation was identified and resolved quickly and highlights the importance of the recent efforts undertaken by the Sheriff’s Office and Mt. View School administration team to promote the See Something - Say Something campaign.
