LINCOLNVILLE — Mildred C. Flagg, 90, widow of Thomas E. Flagg, died June 4, 2015, at Tallpines in Belfast. Born in Norfolk, Mass., on March 1, 1925, she was the second daughter of William and Ethel (Fuller) Coathup.

Her family moved to Lincolnville Beach when she was 9-1/2 years old and she attended the one-room scho and later Camden High School graduating in 1941, the youngest in her class at the age of 16. During the summer months, Mildred worked as a waitress at the Beach Inn Restaurant and later at Talbot-Stevenson Insurance Agency in Camden.

On July 22, 1944, she married Thomas E. Flagg in Belfast and lived in Lincolnville where she raised their four children.

In October 1961, Mildred went to work for the U.S. Postal Service at Lincolnville Beach, where she worked as a clerk for 10-1/2 years, and was appointed postmaster in Lincolnville Center in 1972, retiring March 31, 1985.

She was a 50-year member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a 45-year member of the Mayflower Society. She was a descendant of the Mayflower pilgrims, Dr. Samuel Fuller, Francis Eaton, Isaac Allerton, John Tillie, John Howland, William Brewster, Stephen Hopkins and John Billington.

When Mildred was 10 years old, her grandmother, Gram Whalen, taught her to crochet, a craft she enjoyed all her life. She enjoyed making mittens, sweaters, afghans, doilies, and other items for family and friends. In her later years, she made and donated over 250 angels to the Hospice Unit at Waldo County Home Healthcare.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Thomas E. Flagg; her son, Thomas E. Flagg Jr.; and her sisters, Barbara Kobs, Nancy Duncan, Dorothy Collemer and Edna MacFarland.

Surviving are her three daughters, Ellen Garneau and husband, John, of Meredith, N.H., Doris Weed and her husband, Ken, and Jane Jipson and her husband, Dana, all of Lincolnville; five grandchildren, Kenneth Weed Jr., Steven Weed, Derek Welch, Craig Welch and Trent Welch; a step-granddaughter, Jessica Krise; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Winifred McMackin of Portland.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services.
