Michael W. Stanley, obituary
WEYMOUTH, Massachusetts — Michael William Stanley died December 22, 2019 in Weymouth, Massachusetts due to complications from surgery and COPD, at the age of 63.
Born June 28, 1956 in Bristol, Tennessee, he was the son of George and Catherine Kane Stanley. In 1966, after living in Birmingham, Alabama and attending elementary school there, Michael moved to Plymouth, Massachusetts with his parents and sisters. Michael lived with his mother and sisters throughout New England until his early 20s. He later moved to the Southeast where he worked for several years at an offshore oil platform off the coast of Louisiana.
In 1991 Michael moved to Maine to live near his mother and quickly became part of the Rockland community for many years. Michael rode his bike to work at Hannaford and volunteered his time at the Owls Head Transportation Museum.
Those who were lucky to know Michael could see and experience his kindness, compassion and generosity. Michael loved his family immensely and was truly a caring and protective brother to his sisters. He was a gifted artist who loved to share his artwork with family, friends and caregivers. Michael had a profound effect on his immediate family and set the bar on how to be a kind human being, a quality he learned from his mother.
Michael’s sisters are grateful and thankful to the people in his life that treated him with the respect and dignity he deserved.
Predeceased by his parents, Michael is survived by his sisters, Susan Feely and her husband Scott of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Kim Stanley of Helena, Montana, Margo Sweeney and her husband Bill of Somersworth, New Hampshire; nieces, Tricia, Caitlin, Meredith, Rachael, Alli and Libby; as well as five great-nephews and one great-niece.
