CAMDEN — Michael Quintin Clukey, 73, of Camden passed away on February 29, 2020 at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, Maine.

Known to friends and family as Mick or Uncle Mickey, he was born January 19, 1947 in Camden and was the son of Quintin H. Clukey and Gladys (Berry) Clukey.

Mick attended Camden area schools and was a member of the Class of 1966 at Camden-Rockport High School, the first class to graduate after Camden and Rockport High Schools consolidated. He enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball and watching professional sports on television. He participated in the Camden Men's Softball League, playing with teams such as Nash's Market and Patty's Studio. Mick was very fast and known for his strong throwing arm earning the nickname “Mick The Quick.” Mick loved the Montreal Canadiens in hockey, the Washington Redskins in football, the Cincinnati Royals in basketball and the Pittsburgh Pirates in baseball. Oscar Robertson was his favorite basketball player and Roberto Clemente was his favorite baseball player.

Mick also enjoyed playing fantasy baseball and fantasy football with friends and was an excellent dart player. He loved to read and enjoyed watching Turner Classic Movies. Mick was very knowledgeable when it came to subjects like US history, world history and geography. He owned several dogs and cats during his lifetime and cared for them all, as if they were the children that he never had. He loved animals and children, especially his nieces and nephews.

Mick attended the University of Maine at Orono from the fall of 1966 until 1970 majoring in education. In 1970, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1972. Mick was married in the 1970s and later divorced.

Mick was a house painter for over 50 years in the Camden community and in his younger years, was known for his steady hand and keen eye. Up until the time of his death, he could still climb staging, or paint the eve of a house, 60 feet off the ground on a ladder, with the best of them. He continued to work with friends and co-workers at Fitzy LLC until declining health caused him to stop working around Christmas time of 2019.

Mick was predeceased by his father on New Year's Eve, December 31, 1991 and his mother on October 13, 2003.

He is survived by his brother, Alan Clukey and wife, Dera, of Belmont; his nieces, Traci Clukey of Belmont and Laurie Haynes of Lincolnville; and one nephew, Matthew Berry of Knox; one-great nephew, John Haynes of Waldoboro; five great nieces, Nikiah Bowen and husband, Eric of Frankfort, Airianna Berry of Belmont, Sierra Berry of Searsport, Angel Haynes of Lincolnville, Brenna Knudsen of Belfast; and two great, great nieces, Zylah Carr of Frankfort and Aubree Bowen of Frankfort. 

Memorial donations in Mick's memory may be sent to Pen Bay/Waldo Healthcare Foundation, 22 White St, Rockland, Maine, 04841. Checks may be made payable to WCGH Oncology Fund. This fund helps patients who are unable to work, with household finances and bills.
