ROCKLAND — A live broadcast of the Met’s premiere of Grounded will be presented Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m., at the Strand Theatre. An encore will be screened on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. 

Tony Award–winning composer Jeanine Tesori’s powerful new opera Grounded wrestles with often-overlooked issues created by 21st-century war making: the ethical conflicts created by the use of modern military technology and the psychological and emotional toll supposedly safe remote technology takes on our servicepersons.

Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo stars as the hot-shot fighter pilot whose unplanned pregnancy takes her out of the cockpit and lands her in Las Vegas, operating a Reaper drone halfway around the world. American tenor Ben Bliss co-stars as the Wyoming rancher Eric in a production by Michael Mayer that brings this story to life in a high-tech staging which presents a variety of perspectives on the action. 

Met Music Director Yannick Neězet Seěguin takes the podium to conduct Tesori’s kaleidoscopic opera. This opera is sung in English, and has a running time of 2 hours 44 minutes, including one intermission.                                   

The Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning Live-in-HD series has increased accessibility to Met performances for audiences around the world. Met artists serve as hosts for the series, providing background on the operas, introducing exciting behind-the-scenes features, and conducting live interviews with stars, crew, and production teams.

Reserved seats are offered for the live transmissions, with general admission seats offered for the encore presentations. Ticket prices for the live broadcasts are $30/Adults, $25/Strand Members, and $15/Students, including college students with ID. Tickets for encore presentations are $25/Adults, $20/Strand Members, and $5/Students.
