Poem

A Merriam Thanksgiving

Thu, 11/25/2021 - 10:30pm

    For Nich and Carol

A lovely, warm late November day

    generations gather

talking of old days, lobsters and carpentry

now we hear of a new joining

    flowers bound by strong composites

    youngsters from Iowa cornfields

and the roar of the Maine coast

    this melding in the family

    bodes well for everybody

a mixture of trades, music, food

    creating laughter, Danny’s joy

    for those approaching their passing

    knowing a young couple

    will carry on

    gives peace to their  souls

    is there a Heaven

    no one knows for sure

but in spite of pains, losses

    we have had

    from time to time

    glorious, friendly times

such as today in Paula and  Mark’s kitchen

    bringing the food of tradition

    the rosy cheeked, the strong

    worship the family, our bonds

that makes a glue, which endures

and makes us happy & glad to be alive
