Meda Ann Gilbert, obituary
ROCKLAND - Meda Ann (Patterson) Gilbert, 70, died peacefully Oct. 15, 2016, surrounded by loving family, at the Sussman House in Rockport.
Born Feb. 18, 1946, in St. Stephen N. B., Canada, she was the daughter of Robert S. and Melvenia H. (Stanhope) Patterson.
On Nov. 3, 1989, Meda married her lifelong partner, Homer K. Gilbert, at their home in Thomaston. They enjoyed many years of life, love and travel together.
In earlier years, Meda worked at Port Clyde Packing, later working beside her husband running Gilbert's Seafood. In recent years you could find Meda's smiling face at Goodwill Industries. Due to declining health Meda was forced to retire. This was hard for her as she especially loved working at Goodwill, her co-workers and the public.
Meda was a wonderful and caring mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were the highlights of her life and she loved them with her whole heart.
Predeceased by her husband, Homer on May 25, 1993; her four siblings, Sheldon Patterson, Gayle Bulmer, Robert J. Patterson and Lenora Denson; Meda is survived by her children, Craig Christianson and his wife, Amanda, and Wanda Harvey and her husband, Alan, all of Rockland; her grandchildren, Gregory Christianson and his partner, Heather Brewer, of Waldoboro, Danielle Huto and her husband, John, of New York, and Connor Harvey, Autumn Harvey and Makenzie Christianson, all of Rockland; her great-grandchildren, Lillian and Jackson Huto of New York; and many nieces and nephews.
Meda will be sadly missed, her daughter sums up her feelings with these words:
My Mother
My mother is a woman like no other. She gave me life, nurtured me, taught me, dressed me, fought for me, held me, shouted at me, kissed me, but most importantly loved me unconditionally.
There are not enough words I can say to describe just how important my mother was to me, and what a powerful influence she continues to be... Mother, I love you.
At Meda's request there will be no funeral. Her family will remember her life privately.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Sussman House, c/o Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04856.
