McMahon Builders stake claim to Rockland Little League championship




















ROCKLAND – It took longer then the McMahon Builders had hoped to capture the championship, but Thursday night they got it done in a hard fought battle against the Islanders of Vinalhaven with a 4-3 win.
With the win the Thomaston based team, that played for the first time this year in the Rockland Little League, took home the coveted softball championship.
This was a match up of two of the best pitchers to take the circle in Rockland Little League this season. Thomaston had Abby Veilleux throwing against the Islanders Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes. Everybody got what they wanted, a great championship game that both teams gave their everything to.
Veilleux got the win pitching six innings allowing three runs on three hits and three walks while fanning nine batters.
Davis-Oakes took the loss pitching five innings allowing four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three.
Hitting for McMahon Builders were, Hannah Benner (double), Veilleux (single, double, 2 runs), Chloe Jones (single, double, run, RBI), Hannah Moholland (triple, run), Morgan Lindsey (single, RBI) and Emily Wotton (single)
For the Islanders, Davis-Oakes (home run, single, 2 runs), Cheyenne Bickford (single), Paige Dennison (single, double) and
Breyann Osgood (run).
For Davis-Oakes the inside the park home run to right center field was the 16th home run of her career in Little League with this being her last season.
