Maxine E. Martz-Grierson, obituary

HOPE — Maxine E. Martz-Grierson, 83, died peacefully, Monday, April 19, 2021 at her home following a period of declining health.

Born in Union, April 7, 1938, she was the daughter of Edwin S. and Lucille Roy Pease. She was educated in Union schools.

In 1954, she married Donald R. Martz in Washington. They made their home in Hope where they raised three sons. Mr. Martz died December 12, 1990.

As well as being a devoted mother and homemaker, Maxine worked at a few different jobs throughout her career including Exotica Woodwork and as a CNA at the former Camden Health Care Center. She later worked several years, until her retirement, with van Baalen Pacific Corporation in Rockland. Even after retiring, she worked seasonally at Hobbs Farm & Greenery, in Hope.

October 20, 2000, Maxine married Richard A. Grierson in South Thomaston. They have made their home in Hope since that time.

Maxine loved sewing and cooking, and was pleased to quietly share her love for her Lord & Savior with any listening ear.

For many years she was an active member of the South Hope Community Church. More recently, Maxine and her husband attended Hope Community Bible Church.

Besides her parents and her first husband, Maxine was predeceased by one son, Edwin L. Martz, Sr.; and two siblings, David Pease and Theresa Randall.  

She is survived by her husband, Richard A. ‘Rick’ Grierson; two sons and their wives, Donald R. Jr. and Toni Martz, and Terrance and Robin Martz, all of Hope; her step-daughter, Jessica Grierson of South Thomaston; six grandchildren, Edwin “Eddie” Shantelle, Heather, Jess, Dean and Melissa; several great-grandchildren; her siblings and spouses, Douglas and Betty Pease of Union, Daniel and Jill Pease of Washington, Eugene and Faye Pease of Union, Edwin S. Jr. “Bub” and Norma Jean of Union, Priscilla and Jack Pierse of Lincolnville, Adele and Dennis Ripley of Union, Diane and Patrick McBrien of Florida; her mother-in-law, Beverly Grierson of South Thomaston; two sisters-in-law, Debra Pease of Union, Deborah Olsavick and her husband Ronald of Rockland; a brother-in-law, David Grierson of South Thomaston; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
