MaineHealth and Northern Light Health are closely monitoring the global shortage of IV contrast media used in CT and other diagnostic procedures that is being caused by disruptions at production facilities in China.

“The health and safety of our patients is our highest priority and each of our organizations is exploring options to ensure that our patients continue to receive necessary care,” said a joint statement by Doug Sawyer, MD, PhD, Interim Chief Medical Officer of MaineHealth; and Karl-Heinz Spittler, MD, MBA, Senior Vice President and Chief Physician Executive of Northern Light Health

“Patients should be aware that these supply chain issues may cause delays or that providers may order alternative diagnostic procedures that are medically appropriate,” said the release. “We appreciate patience as our supply chain and clinical teams navigate this latest challenge caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
