JACKSON — Lloyd M. (Buddy) Clark, Jr, 88, of Jackson, passed away on April 17, 2021, in Windham after a period of declining health.

He was born February 15, 1933, in Belfast to Lloyd and Sara (Knowlton) Clark Merrill.

Dad proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and then in the National Guard. He worked as a mechanic and handyman, served as a volunteer firefighter with the Belfast Fire Department in the 1970s. A skilled craftsman, he carefully built many pieces of furniture through the years.

Dad enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing cribbage, and watching old western movies. He liked to watch the birds and other wildlife, which he referred to as the critters. He enjoyed teasing others wherever he went. He would tell people he was born in 19-froze-to-death, and that he was going to live to be one hundred. He maintained his flirty sense of humor. Dementia forced placement in a long-term care facility recently. Upon meeting him, the admissions director told him he looked handsome in his flannel shirt and blue jeans. He replied was a big grin, “I know!”

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Mary; infant son, Brian Clark; and siblings Ronnie Clark, Marilyn Leathers, and Leroy Merrill.

Dad is survived by his children Sarah (Barry) Peabody, Clyde Clark, Doris (Eric) Reed, George Wescott, Jr., Barbara Potter and Robert (Cathy) Clark; siblings Edwin “Teddy” Clark, Philip Clark, Gene Merrill, Mike Burbeck, Linda Merrill Short, Bobby Merrill, Rhonda Merrill and Debbie Merrill; grandchildren Heather, Shannon, Mary, Georgia, Sarah, Clyde, Joe, Dyllan, Lloyd, Auriela, and Willis, Morghan and Zach; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lloyd’s name to the Purple Iris Foundation, 418 S Main St Apt 9, Brewer, ME 04412; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine at 66 Elm Street, Suite 100, Camden, ME 04843; or the charity of your choice.

A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, May 8, at 2 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Brooks, 22 Veterans Highway, in Brooks.
