Rockland Little League Baseball Playoff Plan
We are excited to include teams from Thomaston and St. George into our schedule this year, and to incorporate true road games into our schedule.  Our plans for playoffs this year are designed to reward higher seeded teams with a home playoff game, while also ensuring that league championships take place on our league-owned fields.  The following playoff plan for Major League Baseball has been approved by the Rockland Little League Board of Directors for 2013.

Playoff games will be single elimination until there are four teams remaining, when the tournament will convert to a double-elimination format.  All single-elimination games will be held at the home field of the higher seed.  Once the playoff field is reduced to four remaining teams, all games will be held at Gordon Field in Rockland until a league champion is determined.  The higher seed shall be designated the ‘home team’ for purposes of batting order throughout the playoffs, including games at Gordon Field (which may or may not be the true home field of the home team).

Since there are 9 teams, the playoffs will begin with a single-elimination ‘play-in game’ with the #9 seed versus the #8 seed at the home field of the #8 team.  Weather permitting, this game shall be held at least four days in advance of the next round, so that the winner will have all pitchers available for its next game.

Once the field is reduced to 8 teams, the winner of the play-in game will face the #1 team at the home field of #1.  Also, #7 will play at #2, #6 at #3, and #5 at #4.  All of these games will be at the home field of the higher seed, and will be single elimination.  Fields eligible to host playoff games include Gordon Field in Rockland, Thomaston Little League Field, Leppanen Field in St. George, and the Vinalhaven High School Field.

Once the playoff field is reduced to four teams, the playoffs will convert to double-elimination, and all remaining games shall be held at Gordon Field in Rockland until a league champion is determined.  The higher seed shall be the home team and bat last throughout the playoffs.
