A little change in the weather
As if to tease, temperatures are climbing to 23 to 27 to 34, and the breeze is building on Penobscot Bay and offshore. The Maine Department of Transportation canceled some of its Vinalhaven and North Haven ferry passages today, this morning, the 1 p.m. to Vinalhaven, and the 2:15 to North Haven, due to building winds out of the south.
It’s weather we haven’t seen in awhile, and the National Weather Service is suggesting gusts up to 50 miles per hour for the Penobscot Bay area and wider, stretching from Winterport to Unity, Thomaston, Rockland, Boothbay Harbor and Bath.
Further out to sea, gale warnings are in effect until 10 p.m., with seas 11 to 16 feet.
That wind advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. and means strong winds of 31 to 39 mph are to blow, with occasional higher gusts.
“High profile vehicles may have some difficulties, especially on bridges,” the NWS said.
