Lillian Irene Olson, obituary
THOMASTON — Lillian Irene Olson, age 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 15 in Thomaston, Maine.
Irene, as she was commonly called, was born in Coma, Georgia on December 7, 1927, to parents William Olson Sr. and Annie Wortham Olson. Irene grew up in Thomaston and attended local schools. After schooling, Irene worked at Van-Baalens in Rockland for 43 years.
Never one to sit idle, Irene enjoyed knitting and crocheting and loved to dance. Irene faithfully cheered on her beloved Boston Red Sox baseball team and found great comfort in volunteering at the Shore Village and Knox Center nursing homes. Her loving care to those residents brought a smile to each and every one of them.
Irene's family fondly recalls her as being the most caring and unselfish person and would go out of her way to assist someone in need.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, her brother Raymond Olson, and many lifelong friends.
She is survived by sisters Gloria Olson of Wisconsin, Norma Schneider of Virginia, and brothers Carl Olson and Roger (Jo Ann) Olson both of Wisconsin.
A special thank you to Karen Welch, Irene's constant companion and caregiver for her gracious, kind and loving care for the past several years.
In keeping with Irene's wishes, a private service will be held at her memorial site. Donations in her name can be made to the Knox Center Nursing Home, 6 White Street , Rockland, Maine 04841.
