Knox County deputies notify public of possible Public Safety Checkpoints in 2022
KNOX COUNTY — Sheriff Tim Carroll wants the citizens of Knox County, and its visitors, to be aware that deputies, along with the assistance of local law enforcement partners, may conduct Public Safety Checkpoints, otherwise known as roadblocks, throughout Knox County this year.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, in a news release, law enforcement utilizes checkpoints for several purposes such as detecting impaired drivers, getting unsafe motor vehicles off the roadway, and limiting the public’s access to unsafe areas, such as a police standoff.
“This public notice was made because of policies and rules for us to notify the public in advance that a checkpoint may be set up by law enforcement at any point as the result of various events, such as a barricaded subject,” said the KCSO.
The KCSO has not received any funding this year to conduct highway safety details, such as impaired driving or seat belt enforcement; therefore it has no plans to conduct these types of details at this time, according to the department.
Public Safety Checkpoints would be conducted by deputies at varying times and locations throughout Knox County, oftentimes with little or no notice other than this release, to safeguard citizens from risky incidents and drivers.
The KCSO is encouraging everyone to:
- Double check that vehicles are properly registered, inspected, and insured
- Ensure that all occupants and loads are secured properly
- Not engage in distracted driving behaviors, such as texting, eating, putting on makeup
- Be observant of speed limits and surroundings
“If someone has questions about their own circumstance or concerns about someone else's, feel free to contact us and ask to speak with a deputy,” said KCSO. “We do provide, when time allows, safety checks and Child and Occupant Safety Inspections, contact us anytime to schedule.”
Please remember to be safe and enjoy your commuting experience responsibly!
