Kathy Ann Weymouth, obituary
Kathy Ann Weymouth (Kathy Plaisted) died Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Sussman House in Rockport with the warm sun shining on her and the birds chirping in the trees nearby. She was 67 and had lost her battle to an aggressive form of breast cancer.
Kathy devoted a large part of her life to raising her daughters from her first marriage: Tracy Kinney, Tabitha Woodbury and Natasha Plaisted Chase. She was a wonderful mother who always had fresh-baked treats for the girls and their friends. She made countless costumes, prom dresses and other special occasion outfits for them, and she always had a car-full of kids she was taking to a dance, sports game or dropping off downtown. Kathy loved to dress up for Halloween. One Halloween, she picked the girls up from school dressed as a witch and was nearly unrecognizable with a green face, fake nose and wig.
Kathy found a love for the outdoors later in life. Kathy and her second husband, David Provost, enjoyed fishing, camping and hiking together. For Kathy, fishing was a competition and she had to have the biggest fish. The fishing guides always enjoyed Kathy’s company and her spunky attitude to get the most fish. They traveled to different parts of Maine and New England, Panama, Canada, Hawaii and to the National Parks out West. She David also introduced Kathy to baseball and football, and she became a devoted Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Kathy was an amazing seamstress, quilter and knitter. She loved making quilts, dresses, sweaters and hats especially for her grandchildren, Caleb and Estelle Chase, Lily Hanna and Finlay Woodbury. One winter, she knitted rainbow hats for all the girls on Estelle’s Friday Night Ski Race team. Her love for her daughters and grandchildren always spread beyond to a love for their friends.
Kathy had immense love for her grandchildren. She would work with them in the garden, take them fishing and teach them to bake, knit and sew. David (Pa) and Kathy (Grams) enjoyed taking them to Seadog games, canoeing, hiking and fishing.
There is certainly not a shortage of love for Kathy. Both her sons-in-law, Kenneth Chase and Douglas Woodbury, enjoyed spending time with her. Doug would go ice-fishing with her and David and Ken would go deep-sea fishing with them. Kathy’s sister, Karin Walsh, was very close to her and enjoyed sharing stories of how Kathy always got her in trouble as a child. She also had many close friends, from her years of working at Schoolhouse Togs, her many years at Walmart and other parts of her life, who she considered family and loved spending time with.
There will be a celebration of Kathy’s life on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the Camden Snow Bowl from 3-5 p.m. The event will be potluck, so please bring a covered dish to share. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Kathy’s name to Georges River Land Trust, which maintains many of the local hiking trails Kathy loved so much.
