ROCKPORT — Kate Swayze, of Phi Builders + Architects, has recently passed her exams to become a certified interior designer.

According to the Council for Interior Design, an interior designer passing this exam is defined as "qualified by means of education, experience, and examination, interior designers have a moral and ethical responsibility to protect consumers and occupants through the design of code-compliant, accessible, and inclusive interior environments that address well-being, while considering the complex physical, mental, and emotional needs of people."

After graduating from SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), Swayze moved to Maine and began working at Phi with an experienced team of designers and builders who helped hone an understanding of construction methods and a practical application of design theory.

“Kate has great technical capabilities, design sense, and an understanding of project priorities,” said Phi owner, Bettina Doulton, in a news release. “She has experience in all varied arenas including interior design, furniture and cabinetry design, residential and commercial renovations, and new construction projects.”

Swayze's favorite aspect of her job is helping clients discover and create spaces that are a reflection of their lives and personal style.

“She is able to juggle many types of designs, for many jobs, at once,” said Doulton. “She simply knows how to find life in a space.”
