John K. Nevius, III, obituary

CAMDEN — John Kline Nevius, III, 78, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2019 at the Sussman House in Rockport.  

Born on March 18, 1041 in Port Jervis, New Jersey, he was the first son born to Dr. John K. Nevius, Jr. and his wife, Lucinda Murray Nevius. 

John grew up attendeing public schools in Plainfield, NJ. He graduated from Plainfield High School where he excelled in football and wrestling. He went on to attend Franklin College in Indiana and Springfield College in Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Rutgers Agricultural School where he studied turf grass management.

John married Joan Baldino in 1965. 

John’s early career was spent in the banking industry starting as a branch manager for Suburban Trust where he was promoted to vice president after the bank merged into United National Bank. He left the banking industry to enter into turf management where he worked for the Spring Lake Country Club along with the Manasquan River Country Club, eventually retiring from Monmouth County Park System.

He and his wife, Joan, retired moving to Camden over 20 years ago. 

John enjoyed golfing, painting, completing home repair projects, and especially his many pets over the years. He loved the outdoors and built a fire each evening in his beloved woodstove.

Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Joan Nevius; their two children, John Nevius and Susan Nevius Lavalla; four grandchildren, Morgan, Taylor, Kristie, and Matthew; two brothers, George Nevius and Gary Nevius; and a sister, Kathy.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at the Sussman House for their excellent care. Their warmth and level of compassion made John’s passing to be as peaceful and comforting as possible which is greatly appreciated by the family.
