ROCKLAND — Peacefully, as the moon rose over Sussman House, Joan M. Alex, 83, our wonderful wife, mother (in-law), sister and friend began her next journey on January 19, 2020, fortified with faith and knowing without a doubt just how much she was loved.

She was born in Newton, Massachusetts on September 8, 1936.

Although Joan’s passing was rather sudden, she prepared herself beautifully in life by being a devoted wife and an amazing mom, while being the heart of the family and a bread winner at the same time! When not working fulltime at Sylvania in Waldoboro, Maine making filaments for light bulbs for 37 years, you could find her in the stands routing for her sons at their athletic events, bowling, in the garden, reading, cheering on the Boston Celtics, or patting a stray cat she took under her wing.

What we loved most about her was her unselfishness, words of wisdom and positive outlook on life. However, what stands out the most is that she never spoke ill about anyone. Joan will continue to inspire us to be the best we can be.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Christy S. Alex, of Rockland; sons Robert Alex of Rockland, Mark Alex and his wife Rosemary of Hope; grandsons Ross Alex of Rockland, and Ryan Alex of Pullman, Washington.

A private ceremony will take place in honor of Joan and to celebrate her life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Joan to the Pope Memorial Humane Society 25 Buttermilk Lane Thomaston, ME 04861 to help them continue to care for the stray kitties Joan so loved.
