CAMDEN — Jean Carver Harper, 89, of Camden, died on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. 

Born on September 1, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, NY, she was the daughter of Harry and Mete Moyer. Jean was a graduate of Averett University in Danville, VA and worked as a banker throughout her professional career in both Milford, CT and Boca Raton, FL.

A professional watercolor artist, Jean specialized in landscapes and the coast of Maine. She loved brilliant colors and the Mizner architecture of Boca Raton. Jean could be found on the beach panting the vivid colors of the sky whenever there was a tropical storm coming along the coast of Florida.

Jean fell in love with Camden over twenty-five years ago on a summer vacation with her son, later purchasing a home there with the love of her life, Edward Harper, Jr.  She loved the harbor and enjoyed watching the schooners, participating in waterfront activities, eating at the harbor restaurants, and talking with the locals and vacationers from around the world. Jean was known for her wry humor, her warm and engaging personality, and her active involvement in the communities in which she lived. 

Jean was a member of the American Watercolor Society (AWS), the Boca Raton Museum where she served as board secretary for many years and the Camden Yacht Club. In addition, she was a communicant of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Camden and St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Boca Raton. 

Surviving is her son, Christopher Carver and his wife, Amy, of Cape Coral, FL, and their two sons, Spencer and Alexander. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Harper, Jr., on October 25, 2006.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Building, P.O. Box 631, Camden, ME 04843.
