Jamie Weymouth returns to Camden, reopens family business
CAMDEN — Camden Clothesline looks to improve on tradition with a new laundromat on Washington Street open June 20.
Jamie Weymouth, whose family opened the first laundromat at the location in 1981, said it was a no-brainer when he moved back home from Wyoming two years ago.
"It's in my blood," he said.
Weymouth said Bishops Laundry’s closure two years ago gave him the opportunity to return to the family business himself. Growing up across the street means the building and laundry business have been close to him since childhood. He said the combination of family legacy and life experience has given him great expectations for the space.
"Out west I was a landscape foreman, a real estate agent, I wore a lot of different hats. So I know what it takes," he said.
Weymouth said he will stick to a straightforward service that customers will be happy with.
"My whole philosophy is that the customer’s always right, and to provide a very clean and friendly environment."
However, he is taking the chance to modernize the laundromat. Camden Clothesline will have a lounge area with two TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, an iPad for customers and free coffee and tea. Weymouth has also updated the equipment and the space with new floors and counters and is aiming at energy efficiency.
Camden Clothesline will provide free delivery for business accounts in addition to its normal fare of services, including dry cleaning, wash-dry-fold and coin-operated laundry.
Weymouth said he hopes people will check out Camden Clothesline.
"You'll be pleased with the product. We all like looking nice," he said.
