ISLESBORO — The administration at Islesboro Central School has outlined its plans for its upcoming graduation ceremony.

The ceremony, weather permitting, will be outside under a tent in front of the school June 7 at 1 p.m. The ceremony will be moved to the Kinnicut Center if weather deems necessary.

Parents will be called up to the front of the school, along with their seniors, to present diplomas.

“Handshakes and hugs abound,” said Head of School Chuck Hamm. “It's similar to what we see in much of the state right now. We only have nine students, so we can take our time.”

There will be less than 50 people in attendance, which will allow each senior to have three guests.

Masks will be worn at all times (except for a quick photo with family units cohabiting) and all CDC and Department of Education guidelines will be adhered to, including ample room for social distancing.

“We will probably have either a projection screen or large monitor or tv to share a slideshow or two as well as a prerecorded class prophecy and awards,” said Hamm. “Live feed, of course, and recorded for Youtube. No live music [as] that will be pre recorded as well, with students playing ahead of time.

Following the ceremony, a parade with decorated cars will occur.

“Hopefully folks will come out onto their lawns and porches to help celebrate this very special day as we drive decorated cars honking horns,” Hamm said. “Imagine having a senior year like this. They will have stories to tell for the rest of their lives. We're going to make this part of their story as positive and celebratory as possible. I hope we have nice weather that day.”
