Hope holding special town meeting May 6 to vote on $3 million school budget

HOPE — The Town of Hope will be holding a special town meeting Thursday, May 6 to vote on the new school budget for Hope Elementary School. 

The meeting will be held at 6:30 pm. on the field of the school. 

Article 1: Elect a moderator to preside

Article 2: Regular Instruction

The school and budget committees recommend $1,376,151. 

• Regular Instruction PreK-8: $1,343,871 (up $19,195) 

• Gifted and Talented: $32,281 (up $2,939) 

Article 3: Special Education

The school and budget committees recommend $689,436. 

• Instruction: $635,041 (up $25,389) 

• Office: $54,395 (up $5,960) 

Article 4: Career and Technical Education

The school committee recommends spending no money in this area. 

Article 5: Other Instruction

The school and budget committees recommend $29,297. 

• Co-curricular activities: $10,958 (down $100) 

• Extra-curricular activities $18,339 (up $1,550) 

Article 6: Student and Staff Support

The school and budget committees recommend $287,668. 

• Elementary Guidance: $72,498 (up $2,667) 

• Instructional Staff Training: $6,840 (down $1,074) 

• Elementary Library: $72,537 (up $2,437) 

• Instructional Technology $90,245 (down $1,397) 

• Other Support Services: $1,245 (no change) 

• Elementary Nursing Services: $41,488 (up $15,312) 

• Student Assessment: $2,815 (no change)

The school and budget committees recommend $118,827. 

• School committee: $13,715 (up $200) 

• Superintendent Office: $105,112 (up $2,620) 

Article 8: School Administration 

The school and budget committees recommend $201,912. 

• Principal Office: $201,912 (up $7,793) 

Article 9: Transportation and Buses

The school and budget committees recommend $146,499. 

• Transportation: $146,499 (up $4,389) 

Article 10: Facilities Maintenance 

The school and budget committees recommend $244,833. 

• Operations and Maintenance: $244,833 (down $11,379) 

Article 11: Debt Service

The school and budget committees recommend spending no money in this area. 

Article 12: Other 

The school committee recommends spending no money in this area. 

Article 13: Appropriating, Allocating and Raising 

The school and budget committees recommend appropriating $2,105,839.48 and raising $1,114,876.20. 

Article 14: Local Funds

The school and budget committees recommend the town will raise and appropriate $908,784 in additional local funds.

Article 15: Budget Summary

The school committee and town budget committee recommend expending $3,094,623.

Article 16: Appropriating Grants

To see if the Town will vote to authorize the school committee to appropriate such other sums as may be received from federal and state grants or programs or other sources during the fiscal year for school purposes, provided that such grants, programs or other sources do not require the expenditure of other funds not previously appropriated. The school committee recommends a YES vote.
