Hilda M. Dwyer, obituary

VINALHAVEN — Hilda Mae Dwyer, 63, a life-long Vinalhaven resident, died on November 5, 2019 at her home.

Born on March 18, 1956, Hilda was the daughter of Herbert Everett and Ruth P. (Philip) Jeffers, and was a member of the Class of 1974 of Vinalhaven High School.  Hilda married James Dwyer on July 7, 1984.

Hilda had worked over the years as a waitress and bartender for several local businesses. In more recent years, she picked crabmeat provided by local fishermen. A talented organizer and worker, Hilda enjoyed working on local benefit fundraising events and Bingo. Christmas was her favorite holiday where she enjoyed making and giving away candy wreathes. She was a daily customer at the Vinalhaven Post Office and Fisherman’s Friend and liked to going to casinos with her husband, Jim.

Surviving is her husband, James; children, Derek Jeffers and his wife Dorothy; Earl Dwyer and his wife, Casey; her niece whom she raised as her daughter, Casey Rasmussen Walker and her husband, Manuel; brother, Bruce Philip and his wife, Brenda; five grandchildren, Ella, Vanh, Sadie, Ida, and Gunnar; a niece, Rachel Slivinski, and nephew, Bruce Philip.  

Hilda was predeceased by her parents, brother, Gerald Philip, and sister, Ruth Rasmussen.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. at Brown’s Head Cemetery in Vinalhaven.
