Helen M. Beckett, obituary
WALDO - Helen M. (Leadbetter) Beckett, 81, of Waldo, died peacefully on Sept. 5, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 8, 1935, to Norman and Mildred Geneva (Porter) Leadbetter.
She married Edward Beckett of Northport and had nine children, Edward Jr., Denise, Wilma, Charles, Eugene, Jon, Pamela, Paula and Dennis.
Helen enjoyed conversations and visits with her many friends, family and relatives. Before her health issues kept her closer to home, she traveled to many country music events and to family camps in northern Maine.
Through the years Helen, “Mom,” would be the "to go" person if any family member needed clarification with family events, genealogy, cooking tips and sharing favorite family recipes. She especially enjoyed arts and crafts; she always had multiple projects going (needle point, knitting, crocheting) and readily made gifts for her growing family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one son, Eugene; two brothers, Frederick and Arthur Leadbetter; and a sister, Anne Saban.
She is survived by one brother, John Leadbetter; two sisters, Lorraine Erskine and Trixie Jewett; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express our gratitude and thanks to Judy McFadden of Waldo (you were the best friend ever). Also, we would like to acknowledge and thank the attending city ambulance and hospital staff for their professional care of Mom to her end of life.
There will be a graveside gathering on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. at the East Northport Cemetery, followed by remembrance and refreshments at the Waldo Town Office.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Belfast Fire and Rescue "Jaws of Life" Fund, 131 Church Street, Belfast, ME 04915.
Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
