Gypsie V. Underhill, service and obituary

A graveside service for Gypsie V. Underhill, 80, who died on January 12, 2022, will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 11 a.m., at Mountain View Cemetery in Camden. 

Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.

 

CAMDEN — Gypsie Virginia Underhill, 80, passed away unexpectedly from a sudden cardiac event, at Pen Bay Medical Center on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.

Born in Portland, Maine on June 4, 1941, she was the daughter of Roger B. and Phyllis K. Converse. In 1946, she moved to Camden when her parents purchased Cedar Crest Cabins. In 1955, Gypsie was initiated into the Rockland Assembly #12 of Maine, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.

In 1959, Gypsie graduated from Camden High School, and married George Underhill, her high school sweetheart, on October 17, 1959.

In 1980, Gypsie and George purchased Cedar Crest Motel & Coffee Shop in Camden from her mother. They owned and operated the motel until 2000, when they sold the business and retired Gypsie enjoyed doing crafts of all sorts including sewing, doll making, jewelry making, embroidery, knitting and cooking. Over the last few years, she spent many hours in the woodshop helping George with his projects and creating many of her own projects with her scroll saw. Gypsie also had a bit of an adventurous side, enjoying camping, four-wheeling and hunting.

Gypsie will be greatly missed by her husband, George Underhill; her children, Cory Underhill and wife Katrina, Vicki Catell and her husband Mark, Laurie Bryant and her husband Stan; grandchildren, Krystle Catell, Jason Underhill, Rachele Hartley, Dustin Underhill, Nic Sukeforth, Christopher Bryant, Nathan Catell and Peter Bryant; great-grandchildren, Acacia Hartley, Phoebe Hartley, Easton Underhill and Grace Sukeforth, cousins, Linda Knight, Ginny Howells and their families; sisters-in-law, Carol Underhill, Shirley Braley, Eva Botley, and many nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are long-time friends Sandra and Phil Tibbetts, and Connie and Doug Leavitt.

A graveside service will be held in June. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Maine Children’s Cancer, c/o Maine Medical Center Philanthropy Dept., 22 Bramhall St., Portland, ME 04102.
