Grace G. Jones, obituary

UNION — Grace G. Jones passed away July 3, 2021, at the age of 95, at the Country Manor Nursing Home in Coopers Mills.

She was born on June 12, 1926 to Edward and Harriet Jones in Washington, Maine.

Grace was predeceased by her first husband, Arnold J. Danforth and her second husband, Clifford Chase; husband Bill Jones and daughter Brenda Jean Danforth.

Grace enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, canvas craft, liquid embroidery, cooking, canning, baking, collecting recipes (and created her own recipe for Finnish Bread which was – and still is a family favorite), and most of all enjoyed having family get togethers.

She had a strong faith and loved telling others about Jesus and teaching Bible lessons to children. She started the Sunday School in the Washington Village Church in 1951. Over the years she was a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, DVBS Director, taught Good News Clubs and 5-Day Clubs under Child Evangelism Fellowship, and taught children or adult classes for 44 years. Grace entertained missionaries and church speakers for meals and overnight.

Grace waitressed at the Augusta Tri-Corner Store Restaurant, worked in the billing department at Central Maine Power Company and washed dishes one summer at Camp Wavus in Nobleboro with her sister-in-law Ariel. She was a Town Clerk from 1955 until 1957. She was a correspondent for the Portland Press Herald Sunday Telegram for the Union news, a member of the North Union Extension Association, was a participant in cancer and heart drives and sold plants at “The Plant Stand,” part of her husband’s market garden in Massachusetts.

She is survived by son Arnold “Danny” Danforth of Freeport; daughter Lorraine Boren of Rockland; sister Marion Williams of Melbourne, Florida; three grandchildren, Charlene Fish of Appleton, Christine McLain of Friendship and Aaron Danforth of Owls Head; 15 great grandchildren; and 6 great, great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, from 5 - 7 p.m., at Hall’s of Waldoboro, with a funeral service to also be held at Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main Street, in Waldoboro on Thursday, on July 15, 2021, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery, Overlock Hill Road, Union, Maine.
